parcels upto 1000 gms can be sent through registered air mail.No documentation is required and parcels have to be packed in cloth and sealed.

I use registered air mail regularly for small packets outside India, and have no complaint so far.

Hi,
Upto 2 KG.That is the limit for that.
After that you should use speedpost provided a speedpost service is available to that country.
Heavier items can be shipped by parcel or SAL.This you can ship anywhere.
Thanx,
Truly,
Amitava

Dear Jwell_mart,
thank you for your reply.so I'm assuming no customs declaration is required.and sealing it with wax is a must?
and what can be done to request the "ziddi" postal officer to accept 500gms packets/parcels as registered airmail category and not parcel post?
thanks!!

Dear Amitava123gems,

Thank you for your reply. my most packages of small articles would be in the category of 500gms only. it will be very economical to send them thru registered airmail. The local postal officer is being very difficult and only revealing his ignorance by refusing to accept registered airmail packet. thanks once again.

hi friends i also ship outside country.I am noob in this airmail thing.I used speedpost it charges rs 525 to Asia,rs. 800 to Europe. All my parcels are appx 250 grams.
I asked the speedpost officer about airmail,he said airmail & ems are the same thing.
But i felt its not the truth,Is airmail is cheaper as its not trackable.Do i need to open some account to do Airmail?

I am not sure whether you can open account for regd airmail like speed post.Upto 2 kg you can send through registered airmail. The rates are usually the same worldwide depending on the weight of the parcel.

Best price calculator.
It calculates the price based on filled details.
But I don't know what you will be charged once you provide same details at Fukin INDIA POST.
I know. They will come up with some new amount about which they can't explain anything.

Any idea what documentation is to be provided while booking the SAL?

India Post website talks about customs verification in Mumbai GPO itself so as to avoid double packaging.

However what about people from outside Mumbai?

Any ideas would be appretiated.

You cannot say anything about the idiots present at the post office. All the rates given here and all the links provided has no meaning at all, those guys just charge you what they want and will not listen to anything you say.

I wanted to send approx 500gms parcel to USA, as per post website and "small packet" by registered airmail it should have have been around Rs.310/- but the lady at Nasik PO told me after doing her calculations that the cost will be Rs.680/-.

beauty_herbs,

You need not show the item at the post office. Their work is to ship the items.

But you must provide a declaration about the items in the Customs Declaration Form available from the post office free of cost.

For every shipment, you must attach a customer declaration form.

Please note that many countries in Europe don't allow import of herbal products. So study that part very well before you start.

Its true that we dont have to show the content to the postal booking officer.

But its unfortunate that everytime there is new face on the counter.

Some one says to sho the content while some one doesnt.

Some one asks to pack it in cloth.
Some one asks for the seat.

Customs declaration is mandatory but the form is never available. I faced a case where I have to go and get the photocopy of the customs form if I have to send the package. The post official rudely said " If you want to send it - go and get the xerox"

Its just a mess.
The customer service is zero.

If I carry 10 packets, I am giving them 10 times more business. But I am looked down upon in a bad manner with staring glares. I wish the postal department should be privatised. If they set the targets, they will work properly.

These are just few things. Many many more are existing.

The good thing is they have really good rates.

I have a buyer who has bought an expensive pen from Brazil. now I went to post office and the guy refused to take the parcel for Speed Post and said all parcel services to Brazil are suspended. I informed the buyer in Brazil but he got all angry and is threatening to give negative feedback. I really do not know what to do. I offered him full refund but he insisits I ship the item to him.
