Quation about Octroi Charges between Mumbai and Thane

I asked this in the 'Help from other users' discussion forum, but given that it is not visible to most users, i didn't get any answers. So i am posting it here:

Our building is getting a makeover and i decided to rent a place in Thane till the time all the work is finished. I have got conflicting reports regarding Octroi charges levied on all my stuff when moving from Mumbai to Thane and vice versa. I am going to move items that i already own for years like TV, Refrigerator, Laptop, some furniture, etc. Some people say octroi is not applicable for items already owned while others say it is applicable on all items. Some say octroi is applicable only when entering Mumbai, not when leaving Mumbai. Some say is it applicable both-ways.

The best would be to go to the octroi naka yourself and find out the details. Octroi is applicable when goods are meant for Thane but yours is temporary and more so they are old household goods so there should be no octroi but you know our people, we only make money were we should not. According to me both ways Rs.100/- each should avoid all your problems, your tempo fellow will do the needful.
