Is there a different procedure for Jewellery? Could you explain how one gems are shipped internationally? What are the requirements?

Ans. Yes, there definitely exists a different different procedure for Jewellery Shipments. The clearance of jewellery shipments are regulated by the Governement and theie movements are required to be routed through the MMTC ( Minerals and Metals Trading Corporation of India) or any other State Trading Corporation as notified by the Government of India. Most of the times these Trading Corporartions have a stipulated place or location or office at which the export formalities are carried out.

These facilities are managed by the Custodian who are Customs Officials and more importantly have an evaluator and appraiser who appraises such shipments during imports as well as exports. A regular Shipping Bill is required to be filed for the clearance of these shipments due to sug regulations. Shipping Bill is a form of documentation on which the shipment description if mentioned is that which is prescribed format given by Customs.

Internationally, gems are treated as valuable shipments as far as handling during their transportation are concerned due to their nature of goods. This involves additional costs and handling in terms of armoured vehicles and guards along with insurance costs.

Therefore it is necessary that a pre-alert is given to the carrier involved and those involved in the transportation chain so thaty prior arrangements can be made so as to enable reliable delivery of your precious shipment package.

How does the UPS shipment process works from picking up from seller in India and delivering to buyer in say New York, USA

Ans. Firstly, each individual seller requires to make a contact with UPS and it has necessarily to be through our all India toll free number 1-600-22 7171.

The next step is to prepare the necessary documentation to UPS for eg. Invoice, Packing List, etc. The same will be verified by the Service Provider who will collect the shipment. In the event additional documentation is required UPS may ask you for the same.

UPS will customs clear shipments at origin and destination. Relevant customs duties and taxes at destination will be collected by UPS from the receiver or importer of the goods at the destination country.

UPS will deliver these packages to the customer only after collection of duty and taxes. A brokerage fee may be levied depending upon the value of the goods and the amount of duty involved.

UPS Brokerage team is works very closely with US Customs and all shipments destined for the US are customs cleared electronically and much in advance of the shipment arriving into the US.

How can a seller be sure that the Buyer received the shipment, and if was on time?

Ans. UPS provides time definite delivery to its customers. The shipper in India can track his or her packages on e-mail, SMS , web-site. UPS also offers signature proof of delivery to its customers.

I am a seller shipping regularly to UK, US, France and other international destinations. But not satisfied with any of the courier services so far. Either there charges are too high or there services are too poor. My shipment are from 1kg to 15kg weight. Could u suggest some best solution to this. What happens when my buyer has a UPS account and he says that I need to use his account for shipping.

Ans. When a buyer has an UPS account number and requires you to use his account number, please call UPS on its toll free number 1-600-22 7171 and inform a customer service officer about this arrangement. Necessary arrangements would then be made for the pick-up of your shipment.
