Hello All,
I am Nvid and will be taking you through "How to Protect Yourself online against Spoof".
Online phishing schemes increased significantly in the last few months as companies and financial institutions struggled to combat attempts to steal private account information from online consumers.
I would like to highlight some of the basics in Identifying; detecting; preventing and reporting a Spoof.
We at eBay ensure that our user take sensible precautions to prevent them from being a victim of Spoof and online fraud.
eBay has launched Security & Resolution Centre that gives users broad guidelines and help register resolve any issues / complaints.
This workshop I believe will help you have a safe trading experience not only on eBay but for transacting online.

Have you received email with a similar message? Itโs a scam called โphishingโ โ and it
involves Internet fraudsters who send spam or pop-up messages to lure personal information (credit card numbers, bank account
information, Passport, passwords, or other sensitive information) from unsuspecting victims.
What is Phishing and Pharming?
Phishing attacks use both social engineering and technical subterfuge to steal consumers' personal identity data and
financial account credentials.
Criminals use 'spoofed' e-mails to lead consumers to counterfeit websites designed to trick recipients into divulging
financial data such as credit card numbers, account usernames, passwords and social security numbers. Hijacking brand names
of banks, e-retailers and credit card companies, phishers often convince recipients to respond.
Spoofers plant crimeware onto PCs to steal credentials directly, often using Trojan keylogger spyware.

How to Avoid Phishing Scams
- If you get an email or pop-up message that asks for personal or financial information, do not reply. And donโt
click on the link in the message, either. Legitimate companies donโt ask for this information via email - Use anti-virus software and a firewall, and keep them up to date. Some phishing emails contain software
that can harm your computer or track your activities on the Internet without your knowledge. - Donโt email personal or financial information. Email is not a secure method of transmitting personal
information - Review credit card and bank account statements as soon as you receive them to check for unauthorized
charges. - Be cautious about opening any attachment or downloading any files from emails you receive, regardless of
who sent them. These files can contain viruses or other software that can weaken your computerโs security.
Forward
spam that is phishing for information to the company(spoof@ebay.com), bank, or
organization impersonated in the phishing email. Most organizations have information on their websites about where to report
problems

Keep your security software current. Update your firewalls and security patches frequently. Consider using software from companies like McAfee and Symantec.
Monitor your account. Check your account periodically to see if there is any suspicious activity.
Change your password often. And, if you think your security may have been breached, create a new password immediately.
Use a unique password. Your eBay password should be one-of-a-kind, and not used on any of your other accounts. A good password contains letters and numbers. This makes it more difficult for people to guess it.
Take action. If your information is compromised, get a fraud alert placed on your credit report.

Advice To Deter Identity Fraud
- Contact your bank, credit agency or any card issuer immediately if cards are lost or stolen
- Never carry PINs or passwords in a wallet along with the cards they activate
- Read and understand your credit card statements (and any other statements such as telephone, electricity and gas)
- Keep a low credit limit on your credit cards
- Close accounts that you are not using or that you donโt need
- Refuse to give personal financial information to unknown callers or salespeople over the phone, on the Internet or in person
- Instead of throwing out potentially sensitive information like unneeded tax records and bank or credit card statements, obtain or access a shredder to destroy these documents
- Ensure all emails and attachments are screened by up-to-date anti-virus and anti-spam software
- Never reply to emails that ask for personal information

Ways to fight spoof
- Report it. Forward the entire email - including the header information - or the site's URL to spoof@ebay.com We investigate every spoof reported. Please note that the automatic response you get from us may not address you by name.
- forward the email to reportphishing@antiphishing.com
forward the email to the Federal Trade Commission at spam@uce.gov
forward the email to the "abuse" email address at the company that is being spoofed (e.g. "spoof@ebay.com")
when forwarding spoofed messages, always include the entire original email with its original header information intact
- Use Account Guard on the eBay toolbar. If you use Internet Explorer, download the eBay toolbar. Account Guard helps ensure you are on eBay. Download the eBay toolbar now
Use the SafetyBar. Email security provider Cloudmark has engineered a toolbar for Microsoft Outlook you can use to report spoof emails. Should you receive a spoof, click the SafetyBar's "Block Fraud" button to automatically report it to us. Download the Cloudmark SafetyBar now
