Your listing is your salesman on eBay. The buyer’s decision to buy your item is largely influenced by how well you can describe your item in your listing. Therefore creating good and attractive listings is one of the key to making a sale on eBay.

In this workshop, we will be discussing the Do’s and Don’ts while creating a listing.

Some important things you should keep in mind while creating listings are:

Choosing the right Category- Select the right category and sub categories to help buyers find your item easily.

Tips to choose the right category:
▪ Use the "Search for Categories" link on the Sell Your Item form if you need help deciding which category fits your item best.


Enter a Descriptive Title
A descriptive item title is an important part of a successful listing.

Buyers can either browse for products or search for them online.
▪ While browsing the first thing a buyer sees is the item title on the listing page
▪ While searching buyers search for items based upon the words in the item titles, so be sure to include words that buyers would search for. Make sure to include the condition of your item and any other details that a buyer should know upfront. (The eBay search tool finds the words entered by the buyer in the search box within the item titles of products)

So think of words that are attractive and buyers might use while searching for products like yours.

Tip:
Avoid using words like “Wow” “Look” as buyers don’t search for such words.

▪ Search for similar products and see what categories they are listed in.

Adding Pictures

As everybody says, a picture is worth 1000 words! Pictures are the closest you can get to offering the touch and feel effect to potential buyers, so make sure to add pictures of your item to your listing.

Take close, clear pictures of your item from several angles to show buyers all of the item's details and features.

Starting Price

For auctions, the starting price is the price at which you would like to start the bidding on your item. A low starting price will help encourage buyers to bid on your item!

You can start the auction at any price, even as low as Re. 1

Item Description

A good item description gives clear details about your product to generate buyer interest and help buyers know exactly what they will get if they bid on or buy the item.

Be sure to include important information such as:
▪ Color and texture
▪ Item size or dimensions
▪ Brand or manufacturer
▪ Year the item was made in case of collectibles
▪ Item condition (new, used)
▪ Any additional information / features unique to your item.
▪ Also include your accepted methods of payment, the shipping price and your return policy in your item description.

Tip: A Listing Designer enhances your listing and makes your description more attractive and its a free feature.


Shipping and Payment

It is important to inform buyers about the payment and shipping options upfront. It helps buyers know the full cost of purchasing the item.

I want to list a cap, it is a Baazee cap which I think will be a good collectible item for all Baazee fans. What do you think should be the best title for this cap so that it is searchable to the targetted audience.

And also, any tips on making it more saleable...

Hi Sapana,

The cap is definately a good collectible.

While selecting the item title, it is essential to use words that describe the item and its purpose clearly. You may even repeat the category name.

You can use words that you think buyers might search for while finding the product like Baazee cap a collectible, and specify features like colour and size.

You can also use some listing upgrades to promote your listing on the site and get more prospective buyers to see your product.

With regards to your question, attributes are created based on the inventory available in a category. We would like to ensure that if a buyer searches for products using attributes there is a wide set of results.

We are working towards adding attributes to other categories as well and will keep you informed as it happens.
