My blog entry on the ebay.in . So I thought I will bounce ideas here as well .Here it goes...
As a new ebay seller with he name KrishnaIndia, I scoured the internet for tips for ebay sellers , no book or ebook was spared. I went through every guide possible in reviews & guides available at ebay.com.Most have them have a very similar sounding tips about title, pictures etc etc . Here is my list, extracted and refined and which needs to be said all together . I would like invite more from the readers what makes their lisings tick better .
Tip 1 : Title in CAPS or small ?
The best I read was to use a mix of both . Use the BOLD only for the words which you want to STRESS on . It works. The buyer sees the value quickly and the title stands out better on the list . The melancholy is in " MOBILE CHARGER NOKIA MOBILE SET " but when you say "Mobile NOKIA CHARGER set" has that zing.
Sub Tip on Title : Ebay provides 55 characters for your title and each word in it makes your listing searchable by users. So exploit it . Use "Mobile NOKIA CHARGER set , works Nokia 3300 , 6251, GUARANTEED". So buyers searching a charger for Nokia 6251 will bring up your listing .
Tip 2 : Subtitle?
Learning from advertisement world's research , a tagline (subtitle in our case) is very important. In our ebay selling perspective it is no different , if the price of the item allows you to have that then go for it .But a word of caution - use it the fullest with extra information enticing the buyer . . The buyers are a very intelligent bunch particularly in India they will not easily fall for l@@k or RARE, they want value for money .So the brass tacks matter . Give them size, condition, colour, weight , free addition ... and you will do good.
Tip 3 : Feedback Threats?
Every buyer wants to come to amiable buyer or at least to the one with a pleasant smile. So the tip is to drop the threats about retaliation of the negative feedbacks. Look at this threat from buyers perspective he too is automatically anticipating that a negative feedback will bring a negative remark to his reputation .And the second lot ,the new buyers, is not heeding to your threat because a new id is so easy to make. So why say it explicitly in your listing?
Subtip :Every buyer likes to do business with a human rather than a robot . So do not say we have a automated feedback system - all positive feedbacks will replied with postive ones and the vice versa. It is a bit damaging as well . So even you have that luxury of automation, do not mention it . Does it make sense?
Tip 4 : Is there any tip for the photos?
Get GIMP for free from .www.gimp.org if you already dont have photoshop or fireworks. Get the white balance of your picture right .Don't let your whites look yellow because you used ordibnary bulbs to light it up or your flash whitened everything up and other similar problems. One way is to set your camera's white balance or use the software to do it for you .The simple way is to place a grey card near to your item .In GIMP , use the menu layers> colurs> levels, use the mid tone (grey) dropper and point to the grey card in your picture , you will see a marked difference in your picture. Please google for 'grey card tutorial' and you will see more details.
Tip 5 : Brand - Sell it with your item
Every seller sells each item with a hope that his reputation grows and so does his business. Now that is partly achieved by branding . Brand that you are good. Brand that you are trustworthy . Brand that you are quality . Brand that you are the leader . So get all the things necessary for branding - Logo, listing theme, style amongst others . Get the buyers to remember / recommend you and rope in the loyalty . Tee branding gets more important with every new sale. So individualise your listings.Get your signature personalised .
More to come in the sequel to this write up . All the replies will also contribute to the part 2 of this tips. Successful ebayers please do come forward and put a comment and a tip for everybody's (including me) benefit .
