Its a good move and can be implemented in India as well ofcourse with a little more relaxation in delivery time.

4 days thing in .com is being criticized by all , as in US shipments from West coast to east coast and vice versa are normally delivered in 6-7 Days.
For .in , 10 days is the maximum time in which couriers should be delivered. Racing for time: reason is simple, ebay wants sellers to always keep tracking the consignments to avoid any delays.
one way It's good also, think from this point of view, Had we not had facility of ER we would be putting our heart and soul to move the shipments faster so as to get buyer confirm item receipt ASAP. with ER we tend to forget the fate of shipments once they are booked. A little tracking wont really hurt.
I have a software in Excel prepared which keeps me updated about all the shipments sent. And alerts me for any delay.

2nd is that what can you really do to the shipment once it leaves you, be practical and see how many different junction points come into play for the item to reach the buyer. How is it possible that we can track and do anything in this matter. If I take up the matter seriously with the courier company he stops his service, it is as simple as that(yes I have dealt with practically 80% of the known courier cos, all are the same). I have seen the same courier behaviour in Mumbai for 10 yrs and in Nasik the matter is worst in small towns. They are just not bothered about business. After all India is a country of 150 crore people, so who cares.
Yes I will admit I have not used Bluedart or AFL of Fedex or Firstflight only because I cannot pay their rates and they talk of 25000/- business to start with, which I cannot promise and still what is the guarantee that they will also not be like the other courier cos.

1- My Courier Bill is like 20K Per month So I can armwtwist them a bit.
2- My approach is simple. Any parcel if is delayed for over 4 Days I sent a mail. The Excel sheet I have helps me track those delayed parcels.
3- I have a account handler in ARAMEX who is my Single point of contact for any issues.
4- 60% of my parcels are delivered within 48 Hours of shipment. Metro's and tier 2 cities. 20 % take 3-4 Days. Remaining 20% take about a week. (NE and interiors of Orissa and other states.)
These things help me cut down delay in delivery. What I get worried about is some areas where Aramex is not having good service, I have to use speedpost or DTDC on which I have a little control.
