REturning Jewelery to India

I need to return some defective jewelry to India. USPS and FedEx say that the Customs Dept in India will not allow sterling silver jewelry to be delivered in India. UPS says it will.

Does anyone know an answer for sure? Thanks a bunch!

Dear Ebayer,

Seasonal Greetings !!!

Well we are a gems and Jewelry Exporter here in India and have our Fancy Color Diamonds and Jewelry store on Ebay India, so we do know how this issue can be resolved. Firstly you need to contact the seller from whome you initially bought this as the rest of the processes will be completed at their end, when the Jewelry arrives here in India.

Let us clarify, there is an IMPORT DUTY that will be applicable on your this sterling silver Jewlry that this seller recieves. Now there may be different Percentage of Import duty on Silver and Gemstone Jewelry than compared to our Gold Diamond Jewelry hence your this seller will need to enquire this from the Customs office here In his city and then you people can communicate and finalize that how this charge will be paid.

I know this sounds uneasy, but since the Jewelry sent to you ( EXPORTED ) must have been on SALES BASIS, hence any thing coming back, is treated as Fresh imports and hence this duty will be applicable...and yes this is corret, you will be able to ship this back to India thru USPS. Our customer used this service to upgrade to a Newer Diamond solitaire ring with us....

Hope this helps you resolve your this issue.

Thanx

Hello 4boards,

A piece of advise before you ship to India.

1. Send items only Insured
2. Send with Tracking facility
3. Include the invoice the seller sent you (this will help the seller raise the issue with the customs for the benefit of Custom duties here in India.

The seller will have to produce a covering letter to the Custom authorities that he will re-export the same amount of item within 6 months of Import.

Sort out your charges with the seller before sending as you will than run in argument of who pays what !!

Any help do let us know 🙂
