Threatening for positive feedback

Hi friends! BEWARE

I noticed some sellers on ebay who are openly threatening buyers to give them POSITIVE feedback ( no matter what they do) if the buyer expects a positive feedback from the seller! Some of these are actually Sper sellers! I am not sure if ebay allows such messages
e.g. I paste some lines from the email of a seller
> Please allow the courier 5-7 days to deliver the
> product depending on your location.
>
> Once your item arrives in satisfactory condition,
> please leave POSITIVE feedback for me. I will do the
> same for you.

I think the issue is very simple: the buyer's performance in any transaction ends with making the payment properly and promptly. The seller can therefore have NO OTHER CRITERION for evaluating a buyer.

The buyer, on the other hand, is at the mercy of the seller until he receives a good product/service - and beyond, if the product carries a 'dealer's warranty'.

SO the right thing for eBay to do is to force the seller to give his feedback first - BEFORE the buyer does, and let the buyer give his feedback after (if) he is satisfied with the item.

The fact that eBay is allowing sellers to openly threaten and blackmail buyers, obtaining 'positibve feedback' on a quid pro quo basis, has made a mockery of the concept of buyer feedback. As a potential buyer, I now suspect that all the 'positive' feedback a seller boasts about was probably just arm-twisted out of the buyers.

Another recent disagreeable feature that eBay has introduced is the system of allowing sellers to opt to 'keep feedback private'. It sounds very fishy, and defeats the utility of feedback.

There is no doubt that the online platform of eBay is strongly tilted against the buyer - because it's the sellers who contribute to eBay's earnings. It is evident that I do not get the level of purchase protection that I automatically get from a conventional purchase from a shop on the roadside.

I don't remember which sellers or items were involved, but I do remember seeing something like this on the product page : "If you give us a positive feedback, we will give you a positive feedback. If you give us a negative feedback, we will respond with a negative feedback". Such arrogance !! This is a blatant abuse of the feedback system and nothing short of blackmail.

It seems some sellers still have this attitude even if it's not so openly announced.

Dear sitahim,

You have mentioned the following lines reveived from the Buyer......

Once your item arrives in satisfactory condition,
please leave POSITIVE feedback for me. I will do the
same for you.

I think these lines are not created by the Seller but from a standard format provided by ebay. The Seller has just added POSITIVE before the feedback.

So, if you read those lines carefully you will find that the Seller has tried to be more positive in dealing.

The original lines to me seems to be more threatening. That's because it means that the Seller would leave a POSITIVE for a POSITIVE & a NEGATIVE for a NEGATIVE.

Further, some of you have pointed out, as to who should leave the rating first.

ebay doesn't force and would never force either the Buyer or the Seller to leave FEEDBACK first.

My thinking is that the sequence should be as follows:-

1. Buyer pays money.

2. Seller ships the Item.

3. If the Buyer is satisfied....he should leave a +ve first ( thats because he has got value for money and there is no reason why he shouldn't leave a +ve for the Seller)

4. If the Buyer is not satisfied....he shouldn't leave a -ve without contacting the Seller. Buyer & Seller can always sort out differences and sincere Sellers would always be ready to solve the problem).

5. If the Seller is not ready the solve the problem, Buyer may file a SNAD dispute against the Seller. Thus, the feedback doesn't remain a issue if the Buyer gets back his money ( or the Seller solves his problem ).

6. Once the issue is solved, the Buyer can always leave a +ve and maintain a healthy relation with the Seller.

7. To close the deal, the Seller can leave a +ve feedback for the Buyer.

Let there be no blackmail or extortion.........Lets make ebay a lovely platform, full of FUN. .

Hello,

A seller will feedback for a buyer only after the transaction is over.

For any good seller the transaction is only over after the buyer confirms receipt of product and indicates his satisfaction by leaving a positive feedback.

The seller will leave feedback only after the transaction is over.

I'm a seller with some negative feedback and most have been mutually withdrawn because some people are to anxious to leave negative feedback because of the stereotyping of ebay. I usually leave positive feedback after they leave feedback simply because sellers should know if they are dealing with a buyer who's addicted to jumping the gun and leaving negative feedback. I have two negative feedbacks from people who simply thought i was someone else. Or a guy who threatened me saying he was gonna kill me if his item didn't arrive the next day after he paid and he paid with a check after 3 weeks that was nsf. So being a large seller you have to be careful and let other sellers know if they should kick someone from there auctions before dealing with there crap.
