Hello
I received an ordered item from my seller today, which seems to be of a different type than what he mentioned on his product page. I emailed him and he has agreed to replace or refund, and has provided me with his address.
Do i still need to open a dispute in the resolution centre or can i just send him back the item without opening a dispute? What happens if the seller chooses not to communicate or refund or replace after i've sent him the item back? In that case can i open a dispute after i send him back the item?

Technically you cant do anything if you dont open a dispute and seller does not respond after receiving the product back.
What you should do is open a claim but 1st talk to the seller. Explain to him that your intensions are good and you are opening the claim just to secure yourself.

Or,
you can ask seller to refund or replace the item and in that way it is good for both the seller and to you.
Raising a claim will affect seller and might lose his/her account.
i do the same, will refund the money or replace, then the buyer feels happy and leaves me good feedback.
