I have seen lot of sellers quoting the words "Images shown are indicative. Product shipped might differ than product shown ." after a long description of the item at the end of the page. Then whatz the point of describing the item. It is like somebody saying :

You are beautiful.
I like you.
I Love you.
I will marry you.
I am lying.

It is upto the sellers to provide actual description and image of the item that is being sold.

I think you misunderstood the sellers. The sentence you pointed to, in some listings, do not necessarily indicate that a different product will be sent to you. 😉

It simply means that the actual item you shall receive may have some minor differences in look than what appears in the listing. To clarify this, think of a TV advertisement in which a girl applies a fairness-cream and the next moment her dark-skin turns fair & lovely!

Similarly some pictures (in the listing) may be exaggerating the look of the items, but it does not mean you'll be sent a 'Pansonic' DVD instead of the 'PANASONIC' you just won!

Sellers may also use pictures to describe items in packaging, but since companies change packages over time or if the seller sells only the item (without original-packing) then in such cases it's just for him to add that line in the description. Also in some cases items may be offered in lots which contain items of different colors; so if an advertised color isn't available you get the same thing only in a different color.
