Hello, 

I'm planning on buying an iPhone from ebay.com because it's cheaper and my old phone is not acting up. Can someone please help me figure out customs, and tips and tricks etc? I think I will be spending 15000 INR on only the phone (excluding shipping). Can I ask for it to be gift marked? Many people are suggesting this. Also is it 1.5% or 40% customs tax on phones?

You total cost will come up to 20,200/- excluding shipping.

GIFT or no GIFT you will get charged 40% extra by customs i.e if you are lucky. If this arrives by post then you will be called to the local post office and asked to pay the tax amount and the postal charges.

 If fedex then they will ask you to pay the tax when delivering.

Marking it as gift wont work as you will have to pay the duty amount. Go to the website dutycalculator. com and calculate the total duty amount. It will provide you with correct total customs duty you need to pay.
